L3 Academy Robotics Club

The L3 Academy Robotics Club is a weekly class specifically for students who want to explore challenging and fun projects beyond "just the build." Kids wil form their own teams and work as a group to meet the challenge issued by US FIRST for Jr. FIRST LEGO League (non-competitive) and FIRST LEGO League (competitive).  

  • L3 Jr. Robotics Club (ages 6-10). Registration deadline is January 15, 2017 
    • L3 Robotics Club (ages 10-14; Minimum: 5th grade). Registration deadline is August 1, 2017. PLEASE NOTE: Prequisite is a training class (held: Winter & Summer)

    WHO PARTICIPATES? 

    • Students age 6-13
    • Students who have taken one robotics class at our location.
    • Students should have the maturity to work in a small team.
    • Students must be able to participate in a minimum of 8 sessions for the L3 Jr. Robotics Club before the review and a minimum of 10 sessions for the L3 Robotics Club.

    WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM THE TEAMS? WHAT DO THEY DO?

    COMPETITIVE: The L3 Jr. Robotics Club members should expect the following:  
    • The students are grouped into teams of two to six and are expected to work together. Freshman or younger ages will have a smaller group and continuing club members or older children may have a larger team as we expect more complex builds and information boards.
    • Students will work together to meet the current challenge put out by FIRST
    • Collaborate and build a structure with one moving part to represent this year's challenge 
    • Students should embrace and practice the Core Values of FIRST.
    NON-COMPETITIVE: The L3 Jr. Robotics Club members should expect the following:  
    • The students are grouped into teams of four (minimum) to six. Freshman teams will start at four and continuing club members may be grouped in a larger team as we expect the team to be more seasoned and have the ability to increase their competition points each year.
    • Students will work together to meet the current challenge put out by FIRST
    • Team must be available for the qualifying event in November. The event is a full-day activity.
    • Collaborate to meet this year's challenge - Animal Allies.
    • Students should embrace and practice the Core Values of FIRST.

    WHEN DOES THE L3 ROBOTICS CLUB JR. MEET?  

    • The L3 Jr. Robotics Club Jr. (non0competitive) starts from January to the end of March. The teams meet once a week. On April 1, 2017, our teams go to the Glen Ridge First STEMfestival where they will go through a review process. 
    • The L3 Robotics Club starts meeting in August either weekly or bi-weekly. We will reach out to the club members to work out a set time and date that works best for everyone.

    WHY JOIN?

    • The teams take pride in their work. While we coach and guide them, the work that you wil see displayed is ONLY done by the team.

    Registration begins today and closes on January 14, 2017 (first meeting day).
